A South China and Hong Kong itinerary rarely skips the region's mega-resorts — giant oceanariums, cable-car theme parks, and miniature world tours. Below is a fact sheet on four flagship parks with current prices, logistics, and practical tips. Pair this with our guides to Happy Valley and Fantawild or Shanghai Disneyland if you are building a wider China route.

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom (Zhuhai)

One of the world's largest ocean-themed parks sits on Hengqin Island near Macau. The headline draw is a 48.75-million-litre aquarium home to whale sharks and rare marine species. The 1.23 km² site blends animal shows with thrill rides in a single day-friendly layout.

Best for: families with kids and marine-life enthusiasts.

Getting there: free shuttles run from the Macau–Zhuhai Hengqin border crossing (~15 minutes). Taxis work from central Zhuhai; from Hong Kong, take the high-speed train or bus via the HK–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge. Layover tips in our airport self-transfer guide.

Tickets: buy online ahead via Trip.com or official WeChat/Alipay mini-apps to skip queues. Weekday mornings are quietest. Combine with southern beaches in our China beach vacation guide.

Ocean Park (Hong Kong)

A classic south Hong Kong park split into The Waterfront and The Summit, linked by a scenic cable car and the themed Ocean Express funicular. See giant pandas, a major aquarium, and coasters with open-ocean views.

Best for: thrill seekers who want zoo and rides in one ticket.

Getting there: South Island Line metro to Ocean Park Station — Exit B leads straight to the gates.

Tickets: adult admission is about 498 HKD; children 3–11 pay ~249 HKD. All rides are included; food is extra. FasTrack cuts queues. Ready-made plans: 3 days in Hong Kong with children, Hong Kong weekend route, or the 3-day budget itinerary. Book Hong Kong guided tours in advance for busy seasons.

Window of the World (Shenzhen)

A 480,000 m² miniature park in Nanshan with ~130 scaled replicas of global landmarks — Eiffel Tower, Egyptian pyramids, Stonehenge — at 1:1, 1:5, or 1:15 scale. You can "circle the globe" in a day, with evening shows after dark.

Best for: photographers and easy walkers who skip extreme rides.

Getting there: Metro Lines 1 or 2 to Window of the World (Shijie Zhichuang), Exit J.

Tickets: daytime adult tickets cost 220 CNY; after 19:30 entry drops to 100 CNY. Children under 1.2 m enter free. Slot Shenzhen into a multi-city vacation plan with Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Chimelong Water Park (Guangzhou)

Asia's largest water park at 400,000 m², repeatedly ranked among the world's most visited. More than 70 attractions include the Super Tornado slide and a 10,000 m² wave pool with nine wave types. All pool and slide water is heated to a comfortable 30–33 °C.

Best for: friend groups and families escaping summer heat.

Getting there: Metro Line 3 or 7 to Hanxi Changlong Station (Exits D or E), then a free shuttle every 10–15 minutes.

Tickets: adults pay roughly 200–254 CNY by season; evening rates are usually cheaper. Summer tickets sell out fast — book on the official site early. For a longer Hong Kong stay with park days, see the 7-day Hong Kong couple route.

FAQ

How many days do you need for Chimelong Ocean Kingdom?

Plan at least one full day: aquariums and animal shows in the morning, rides after lunch. Families often stay at a Chimelong hotel on Hengqin Island and enter at opening time.

Can you visit Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou in one trip?

Yes — it is a classic Greater Bay Area loop: 2–3 days in Hong Kong with Ocean Park, a day in Shenzhen for Window of the World, and another in Guangzhou for Chimelong Water Park. High-speed trains and metro link the cities.

How do foreigners buy theme park tickets in China without a Chinese phone number?

Use Trip.com, official WeChat/Alipay mini-programs with passport verification, or buy at the gate on a weekday. In peak summer and holidays, online booking is essential.

Ocean Park or Hong Kong Disneyland — which to pick?

Ocean Park blends zoo, aquarium, and ocean-view coasters — great for families and animal lovers. Disneyland is about the brand and atmosphere. If time is tight, Ocean Park is easier to reach by metro.

When is the best time for Chimelong Water Park in Guangzhou?

May through September is peak season with maximum crowds. Water is heated to 30–33 °C year-round, but spring and autumn mean shorter queues. Evening tickets are usually cheaper than daytime.
