Checklist

Travel smartphone: phone prep checklist before your trip

On the road, your phone is map, wallet, translator, and boarding pass. Losing access to it is every traveler’s nightmare. Set it up before the airport so it works offline and keeps your data safe.

Storage and backups

  • Storage cleared (heavy videos and app cache removed; at least 10 GB free for new photos).
  • Cloud sync on (auto-upload photos to Google Photos or iCloud over Wi-Fi).
  • Full device backup created before departure.

Offline essentials

  • Offline maps downloaded for your regions (Google Maps or Maps.me).
  • Offline language packs in Google Translate.
  • Saved as PDF: route, hotel bookings, tickets, travel insurance.

Money and local apps

  • Local ride-hail apps installed (Uber, Bolt, Grab — depends on region).
  • Transit and scooter apps for your destination.
  • Bank cards added to Apple Pay / Google Wallet.

Security

  • Find My / Find My Device set up and tested.
  • Phone IMEI written down and bank hotlines on paper (wallet or bag).

Before you leave, cross-check documents with the documents checklist and plan moves in the multi-city guide.
