A Trip Built Entirely Around Hatsune Miku: How to Visit CHURA MIKU STREET 2026 in Okinawa

This is not a guided coach tour. It is a city event assembled from multiple stops. Its name combines the Okinawan word chura, meaning beautiful, with Route 39: Kokusai Street is part of Prefectural Road 39, while 39 is also read as “Miku.”

Shuri Castle’s main hall burned down on October 31, 2019. Reconstruction started in 2022, and the restored building is scheduled to reopen publicly on November 23, 2026—right in the middle of CHURA MIKU STREET.

Miku acts as a digital ambassador and an entry point into Okinawan culture for a younger audience. In the main visual she performs eisa, Okinawa’s traditional drum dance. Her costume includes red deigo flowers, the prefectural flower, while footwear brand DIANA designed the shoes.

If the reopened hall is a priority, travel on or after November 23. The Miku event starts earlier, but visitors cannot enter the restored main hall before that date.

Kokusai Street and Shuri sit in different parts of Naha. Do not expect to finish every stop in two hours; the final location list will arrive closer to opening.

Applications run from August 19 to September 23, 2026 and can close early if the allocation sells out. This is a domestic Japan package, so international travellers should check departure airports, payment rules and where gifts must be collected.

The official package is not required for the city event. Booking flights and accommodation independently gives more flexibility, but without the exclusive gifts.

• Airport: Naha Airport (OKA). Yui Rail is the easy connection to Kokusai Street.
• Where to stay: Kokusai Street is convenient for evenings; Shuri is quieter but farther from central restaurants.
• Weather: November and December are mild, but rain and wind are possible. Pack a light waterproof layer.
• Connectivity: save an offline map and follow official updates because some stops will be announced later.
• Etiquette: do not block pavements for photos, avoid close-ups of strangers and follow all castle rules.
