How to buy online and on site

Official website

  1. Open Visit / opening times and prices on museodelprado.es.
  2. Choose date, hour and ticket type.
  3. Pay by card; save the QR / voucher.
  4. On the day, go to the labelled entrance 10–15 minutes early.

Paying from abroad

The official site accepts international cards; if a bank declines, try another card or the on-site desk (cash and card from ~09:45). Third-party marketplaces may help with payment but add mark-ups — for the Prado stick to the official site.

Visit plan: logistics and 2-hour highlights

Best paid window is opening at 10:00. For free hours, join the queue 15–30 minutes early. Common accesses include Jerónimos and the Murillo area — follow your ticket.

  • Velázquez — Las Meninas and court portrait rooms.
  • Goya — Black Paintings and The Third of May 1808.
  • Bosch — The Garden of Earthly Delights.
  • Rubens, Titian, El Greco — if time allows.

Cloakroom and large-bag rules change by day. Audioguides cover several languages — confirm availability at the desk.

Museum quarter and nearby

Golden Triangle of Art

Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza sit nearby — the Art Walk pass stitches them together. After the galleries, walk Retiro Park and Paseo del Prado. Street musicians by the Goya monument set a different pace than the rooms inside.

Madrid days: 2 days first time, couples, with kids. Related: Royal Palace, Toledo day trip, Andalusia via Giralda and Seville flamenco, plus Spain without crowds.

Stay near Retiro/Atocha with hotel search; eSIM; insurance. City tours via excursions — Prado entry stays official only.

FAQ

How much are Prado tickets in 2026?

Official orientation: general €15, reduced €7.50, audioguide +€5. Art Walk pass (Prado + Reina Sofía + Thyssen) about €32.80. Always verify on museodelprado.es — we do not sell museum tickets as affiliate offers.

How do I enter for free?

Free collection hours: Mon–Sat 18:00–20:00 and Sun/holidays 17:00–19:00 (ticket desk, subject to capacity). Full-day free entry also applies to under-18s, students 18–25, unemployed visitors, teachers, large families and other listed groups — with valid ID at the desk.

Where should I buy tickets?

Prefer the official museum site with a timed pass. Desk sales from about 09:45. Resellers can help if a card fails, but they add fees — for the Prado we recommend museodelprado.es only.

Is photography allowed?

Photographing artworks in the permanent galleries is generally not allowed; confirm current rules at entry. Exterior shots of the façade and Retiro Park are fine.

How long do I need?

At least 2 hours for Velázquez, Goya and Bosch highlights; 3–4 hours is more comfortable. Arrive 10–15 minutes before your timed slot even with an e-ticket.
