Hotel guide

Best hotels in central Seoul in 2026

Where to start

Seoul has no single official downtown line. Here, central Seoul means the historic Jung-gu core around City Hall, Sogong, and Myeongdong, plus Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu: a walkable base for palaces, Namdaemun Market, and street shopping. Gangnam, Hongdae, Yeouido, and Jamsil are left out as separate transport and nightlife zones.

About this list

There is no single official downtown. This guide treats the historic core around City Hall, Sogong, and Myeongdong, plus Gwanghwamun, as walkable and central for a first stay: a practical base for palaces and Namdaemun. Gangnam, Hongdae, and Yeouido sit outside this list: they are different districts with a different evening and metro rhythm. Use that to pick a base. The Westin Josun Seoul

    Sogong, Jung-gu

    9/10

    3,984 reviews

Why it works for a central stay

Official pages place the hotel in the Sogong core beside palaces, banks, and Myeongdong, and date the operating property to 1914. They document 462 rooms, five restaurants, a sauna, and the City Athletic Club’s 25-metre indoor pool.

    Highlights

    • Historic Sogong by City Hall
    • 25-metre indoor pool
    • Five on-site restaurants

    What to consider

Sogong is a dense business and shopping corridor: peak hours are busy, and the walk to Myeongdong shopfronts depends on the right crossing. Confirm pool and V SPA access for the exact rate.

How to choose

Choose Four Seasons for palaces and Gwanghwamun. Plaza and Westin Josun sit by City Hall and Sogong, closer to the civic plaza, Namdaemun, and department stores. Le Méridien and L7 cover walkable Myeongdong, which is crowded and noisy at night. Fraser Place lies farther west toward Seoul Station and Seodaemun: handy for trains, but farther from Myeongdong shopfronts than Sogong. The main trade-offs are crowds, night-time shopping-street noise, and metro rides to Gangnam or Hongdae.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as central Seoul?

There is no single official centre. For this guide it means Jung-gu around City Hall, Sogong, and Myeongdong, plus Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu. Gangnam, Hongdae, Yeouido, and Jamsil sit outside the selection.

Which hotel is closest to City Hall Station?

THE PLAZA is about a hundred metres from City Hall Station, and Westin Josun is a few hundred metres away on Sogong-ro. Four Seasons is closer to Gwanghwamun and the palaces than to City Hall itself.

Is Myeongdong suitable for a first Seoul visit?

Yes if shopping, beauty stores, and walkable streets matter most. Evenings are crowded, and Gwanghwamun palaces are often easier by metro or via City Hall.

Why are prices omitted?

Rates vary by date, room category, and cancellation terms. Compare the final total and included services through the hotel link for your exact dates.
