How Armory Show differs from Art Basel

Armory is tightly centered on one hall and New York’s fall season. Galleries, Presents and Solo sections mix established participants with younger galleries and individual projects.

Art Basel Miami Beach expands into a citywide week; Armory fits more naturally into one Hudson Yards and Chelsea day.

Tickets and opening hours

September 24 is invitation-only preview. General Admission runs September 25, 11:00–18:00; September 26, 11:00–19:00; and September 27, 11:00–18:00.

Early Bird pricing may be available for a limited period. Buy through the official site and verify the date; standard admission does not grant VIP Preview entry.

Getting to Javits Center

The closest subway is 34 St–Hudson Yards on the 7 train. Penn Station is walkable, but long avenue blocks and entry screening add time.

After the fair, walk south on the High Line toward Chelsea galleries. Avoid a fixed museum slot immediately after your planned exit.

Where to stay

Chelsea and Midtown West work for Javits, Penn Station and walking routes. Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn can cost less when the hotel sits on a direct subway line.

Compare taxes and destination fees, not only base rates. For a short trip, direct transport matters more than ten extra blocks of proximity.

Compare Chelsea, Midtown West and Lower Manhattan hotels before choosing a non-refundable rate.

A Manhattan art day

Morning

Enter Armory near opening, covering priority sections before free roaming.

Afternoon

Lunch around Hudson Yards and a High Line walk without another major museum.

Evening

Two or three selected Chelsea galleries followed by an unhurried dinner.

Build the fair into New York

First-time visitors should give the fair half a day and save museums and neighbourhoods for other days. Visual fatigue is real after rows of booths.

For an art-led trip, place Whitney, New Museum or Lower East Side galleries on a separate day.

Ready-made New York routes

Visitor preparation

  • Save priority galleries and a section map before entering.
  • Carry a light layer because the hall feels cooler than the September street.
  • Ask before photography where a booth displays restrictions.

Before travelling, compare flights to New York, eSIM and travel insurance.
