Carnival highlights
Bonhomme’s Ice Palace
The monumental palace is built from real ice blocks. Visit briefly in daylight for structure and again after dark for coloured illumination rather than waiting outside for hours.
Ice-canoe race
Teams alternate paddling and hauling canoes over moving ice on the St. Lawrence. The 2027 experience is already promoted, but confirm the race date and viewing zones when the schedule lands.
Night parades
The organiser promises two night parades. Routes, dates and road closures can still change; choose one viewing sector and arrive well ahead.
How to plan one or two days
On day one, combine Old Québec, Dufferin Terrace and the Ice Palace after dark. Do not try to hold a parade position while completing every activity site.
Keep day two for the canoe race or snow areas. Strong river wind changes comfort quickly, so alternate outdoor stretches with a museum or long lunch.
The Effigy acts as a seasonal admission pass for core paid sites. The official 2027 page advertised CAD 29 + tax through February 28; verify the offer window and inclusions before purchase.
Where to stay and how to arrive
Old Québec or the area between Parliament and Grande Allée is easiest for a first visit: central sites are walkable and parade road closures are easier to escape on foot.
From Québec City Jean Lesage airport, use bus, taxi or transfer. Parade nights alter traffic, so avoid scheduling a tight airport departure after the finale.
River wind magnifies February cold. Bring grippy insulated boots, base layers, face protection and a warm pocket for your phone battery.
Compare Québec City hotels, flights and flights to Québec, then arrange an eSIM and travel insurance.
